The Florida Department of Health provides a variety of programs and services including:

  • Medical Care-breast and cervical cancer screening; family planning (birth control and sterilization, confidential teen counseling, emergency contraception, exams, pregnancy tests); immunizations and vaccines (child and adult immunizations, HPV vaccines, flu and pneumonia vaccines, travel vaccinations); HIV/AIDS testing, prevention and treatment (education, medical and case management services and drug assistance program); school health.
  • Dental Care-for children and adults and a school-based dental sealant program.
  • Women, Infants and Children (WIC)-food assistance and breastfeeding support services.
  • Vital Statistics-birth and death certificates.
  • Tobacco Prevention Program-Florida Quitline (877-U-CAN-NOW), tobacco reduction program for new mothers and Students Working Against Tobacco.
  • Disease Control-investigating disease outbreaks (food and water, mosquito-borne diseases, rabies); prevention and screening (hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), tuberculosis), and reduction of new HIV, STD and hepatitis infections.
  • Environmental Health Inspections-public and private drinking water; beach water quality; tattoo, tanning and piercing establishments; facility food hygiene, onsite sewage systems, public swimming pools, schools and assisted living facilities and biomedical waste.
  • Public Health Preparedness-disaster and emergency response, medical reserve corps, promoting family preparedness.
